Incredible Indonesia

05 Oktober 2013 | Indonesië, Jogjakarta

When the plane descended on Jakarta I could already see how dirty it was, there was a clear line, above that line was beautiful blue sky, and beneath that line begun the brown, dirty sky of Jakarta. And that is exactly how Jakarta is, dirty, very big, and most of Jakarta is really poor. The traffic is the worst I have ever seen. A trip of 40 km will take you at least 2 hours! Fortunatly i had a warm welcome from Femke (Rosalies cousin) and her son Rio, so the city didn't absorb me!

The next day Zai (a guy who works for Femke's organisation) took me on the back of his scooter and drove me through Jakarta. I went to the Monas, a big monument where I was being admired by all Jakartan people. They all wanted to go on the picture with me! (yeaaaay i've got fans :)) Zai also took me to the campus of his university where i also watched a traditional Indonesian dance, it was so special!

I was told by a lot of people that the people on Java weren't going to be very nice to me and that they would stay away from the tourists if they could, well that is the biggest bullshit I have heard in a long time. All the people are super friendly and will help you with anything!

So Jakarta was not my place to be so I took the train to Yogya the next day. That night I stayed at a beautiful little hutje in the jungle. The profit goes to the animal organisation in Yogya that is run by a friend of Femke.
after that i went to a hostel closer in town were i immediately felt at home, they even had a swimming pool on the roof!

The following couple of days I have spent on the back of the scooter just seeing Yogya and places around that. Have been to the waterpalace which was so great and the underground mosque. We also went to the beach at Parantritis (or something like that) that is a beach with black sand!!!! we had lunch at a place there that was nothing more then a table and a few chairs. She pulled out big boxes with food and everything was so delicious! at the end when we asked how much the lunch costed she looked over to her husband and they began talking in Indonesian, and though we cannot understand that, we were quite sure they were discussing how they were going to rip us off; the lunch costed 0,65 eur each! hahahaha

Yesterday i went on a morning tour to Borobudur and Prambanan. both very old temples. They were so impressive! i actually liked the Prambanan more, it is a hindu temple and much more delicate then the Borobudur! I loved my student card yesterday because on both tickets i got 50% off!
Me and a friend from the hostel were so hot that we decided the only place we could go was the cinema, and so we went to insidious 2, we spent the whole afternoon in the nicest airco ever!

you guys are never going to believe this but i had dinner yesterday at a VEGETARIAN restaurant, uhuh you are reading that correctly. And I have to say, it was quit nice. they have some stuff here called tempeh and that is really good! mom and dad are you proud? maybe if I come back you will not have to eat meat 4 times a week! :D

today we spent the day at the convention center where there was a Kustomfest, a big motorbike thing with all custom made motorbikes. There where also races and a lot of bands! it was really cool!
I have a new favorite band; Suicidal Sinatra
they are from Bali and make really good music! If your interested in something different just listen to this!

I will stay in Yogya until Wednesday so that i can skype with dad o monday to see my baby sister!!!! and then head off to Bali!
can't wait to fin out her name!

miss you all!

    Liefs Corrie
